About EKTA

Ekta is a group of young people who attend schools
within the Borough of Kettering. The group was formed as a direct
result of an objective set out in the Kettering Borough Crime and
Disorder Strategy 1999/2000.
The objective was to establish a young persons group comprising
people of ethnic minority descent to help address concerns of young
people about racial harassment and educate their peer group.
In line with this objective, Kettering Borough Council and the
Kettering Area Youth Team established a group of young people between
the ages of 12 and 18, who are from a wide range of cultural backgrounds
(not just those of ethnic minority descent).
The group decided upon the name "Ekta", which means "unity"
in Hindi.
The EKTA website was launched in November 2001. The launch was
attended by Kettering Mayor Robert Civil and Northampton Assistant
Chief Constable Frank Whitely.
When and Where do we meet?
We meet every two weeks, on a Tuesday afternoon after school, at
the William Knibb Centre (also known as The Zone) on Montagu Street.
