I am trying to survey a diverse population, but the city that I am located in is mostly caucasians & latinos. Any help in this matter is much appreciated. [ Post a Reply to This Message ][Edit] racism and prejudice -- jenny, 12:57:08 07/20/03 Sun i am 15 and i feel that our country is run by a corrupt force. because of tony blair and george w bush, countless people have died as a result of botch ups and friendly fire, i am glad to find a website where young people can discuss such issues. i am not in favour of saddam hussian but both our countries have blamed saddam hussian becuase of the twin towers, thats what the war was all about. tony blair made accusations of iraq holding weapons of mass destruction. i'd like to see his proof, hear his excuse! if you think about it, both our countries are kind of to blame becuase of the way we treated the east. people all around me discriminate against asian people because of this war, everyone is quite happy to blame all muslim people becuase of the war, the bigheadedness and ignorance of the world disturb me. no one will stand up for what they believe in, i would though, i'd risk life and limb to stand up for whats right. i feel so useless not being old enough to do anything, thats how i feel. i don't know what to say, i come from a country where the LAW used to be biggoted, i mean for gods sake, black people used to have to have a government permit to walk on the pavement with a white man, we have shown nothing but malice and hate towards black people and such ethnic groups and WE take offence when they show it towards us i mean how stupid is that! people i know judge ethic groups on run ins that they have had with members of those groups, i don't see why people judge groups on the behavior of individual members of those groups. the reason people grow up today beliving that white and black people live in two different worlds is because of the ignorance that we have towards one another. i am ashamed to be part of this biggotted world. it is people like Martin Luther King Jr and Mohandas Ghandi that have inspired me to make a statement. i would give anything to let the world know how i feel. we all use cliches which stereotype people without us giving it proper thought, like at school, we call people we don't like 'gay' and i find that an unforgivable insult towards gay people. what people are entitled to is their choice of lifestyle, what people are not entitled to is to discrimanate people becuase of their choice of lifestyle, look at hitler, he was jealous of jewish people so he decided to kill off most of their population. i find our behavior unforgivable. i think this website really cule and i couldn't agree to it more Replies: [> Re: racism and prejudice -- Evelyn, 09:49:29 12/19/03 Fri I know a lot of people accuse Bush and Blair of being racist, but I don't know them personally so I can't say if they are or not. Besides, I think racism is a very complex issue because it is more a matter of senses and feelings rather than politics. I'll give you one example of a racist experience I had about 6 or 7 years ago that I'll never forget: I am black and I secretly had a crush on this guy at work who happened to be white. One time I was working away, minding my own business, and he caught me off-guard when he walked in the store and clocked in. I had always made a concerted attempt to conceal my feelings for him because of the racial issue (my region is very unforgiving of black women who like white guys) but that time he caught me by surprise and I guess I gave myself away, flinched or whatever. Now my boss, who was a white female, was sitting there watching this. Unfortunately both my boss and the guy happen to be the sort of people who can pick up on people's true feelings no matter how well they are disguised, and people with this personality trait are also more likely to be racist. My boss pointed me out to the guy, saying "did you see that?" referring to my body language and facial expressions toward him or whatever. He turned around and looked at me for a second and basically made no attempt to quell the humiliation I felt at that moment. I was mortified. The worst thing a female can do to another female is to let the object of her affections know she likes him--every girl knows that--because once you take away a girl's mystery--her hard-to-getness--you take away all her chances of getting the guy as well. He was too young for me and therefore I would never have actually dated him if he begged me and he probably didn't like black girls anyway, but that's not the point. The point is, I'm sure my old boss would never, ever have humiliated a white girl the way she did me, and I think he was a s**thead for cooperating with her. She has the right to her own opinions regarding interracial relationships, but she didn't have the right to handle it that way. Thousands of blacks are moving out of my region every year (I am American) and it's not because of jobs or anything like that. It's because of stuff like this--walking on eggshells, never knowing what is going to happen next... I feel exactly the same as you (a 15 year old), however, I have been victimized by racist minds in employment. I think racism is a disease and it spreads by giving into hate.
